Calibration Technician

The Calibration Technician plays an integral role in assuring that measurement equipment used by Manufacturing and Quality Department personnel is properly calibrated and available for use.

Job Summary:

Department: Quality
Reports To: Quality Manager EEO-1 Class: Professional
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

  • Prepares gage kits for manufacturing, ensuring compliance with production schedule and document gage kit location in GAGEtrak
  • Identifies gauges for calibration in a timely fashion to prevent late status
  • Prepares equipment for shipment when external calibration is required or physically drops off equipment at calibrator
  • Ensures external calibration suppliers complete work as required, on time and using the correct standards
  • Identifies, develops, and promotes calibration system enhancements and solutions for continuous improvement; requests modification and updates to SOP and work instructions as needed
  • Ensures all calibration certifications are scanned correctly and in a timely manner into GAGEtrak
  • Works with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality
  • Serves as the primary calibration contact during internal audits and external inspections
  • Enters information into GAGEtrak for calibration records and assigns gage ID numbers, ensuring the database is correct and current at all times
  • Assists Quality and Engineering in addressing, resolving, and monitoring quality-related issues with gauges
  • Performs calibration activities in a self-directed manner
  • Schedules all outside calibration services (service plates, comparators, CMMs, etc)
  • Performs first piece inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection, when directed by Quality Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma Required
  • 2 or more years of experience managing calibration or similar programs in a manufacturing environment
  • 5 or more years in a manufacturing environment, preferably a machining environment

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • General understanding or knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100
  • General understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to multitask and maintain priorities regardless of interruptions
  • Ability to retrieve measuring and test equipment from workstations
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Intermediate level computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel)
  • Document and record control experience preferred
  • GAGEtrak experience preferred
  • Ability to take direction from multiple sources
  • Has a positive, quality-driven focus
